Price changes already announced

If a renewal price changes, we email you as soon as we know, and again 21 days before any automatic charge. With auto-renew on, a price above the limit you agreed to is never charged without your passkey. A change to our flat fee is announced at least 60 days ahead.

Auto-renew

Auto-renew is off unless you turn it on. You turn it on for one domain at a time, with a separate tick box and your passkey. When it is on, we charge your saved card ten days before the domain expires, up to the price you agreed to. You can turn it off at any time with one click on the domain page, or from the link in any of our renewal emails. No passkey is needed to turn it off.

When we email you

Every notice goes by email to every notification address on your account: your sign-in address and any second address you added. We do not rely on the registrar's own reminders.

What happens if a name is not renewed

For .com, .dev, .app and .studio, our registrar's timeline is:

  1. Day 0: the name expires. Websites and email at the name can stop working. You can still renew at the normal price.
  2. Days 1 to 40: the grace period. Renewing costs the normal renewal price.
  3. Days 41 to 45: our registrar may put the name in a live auction. Once a name is queued for auction, you cannot get it back.
  4. If it is not auctioned, the registry deletes it and holds it in redemption for 30 days. Restoring it then costs the restore fee above.
  5. After redemption the name is deleted and anyone can register it.

An unrenewed name is deleted, or sent to auction, between day 41 and day 45 after it expires. For .ai and .io the registries have not published their timelines. Renew before the expiry date to keep them. If you close your account, we offer to transfer your names out first; names left behind are deleted within 45 days.

Refunds

Extension rules

.ai is run for the Government of Anguilla. It is sold for 2 years at a time, with no 1-year option, and it has no contact privacy, so your contact details show in public lookups. It is not refundable.

.io follows its registry's own terms: its own dispute policy, no sexual or pornographic use, at least two nameservers, and the registry may deactivate a name. The United Kingdom and Mauritius signed a treaty about the Chagos Archipelago in 2025 that is not in force. If the extension were ever retired, the usual notice is five years. It is not refundable.

Registrar of record

Mosshatch is a reseller, not an ICANN-accredited registrar. The planned registrar of record for names you buy here is Tucows Domains Inc. (IANA ID 69), through its OpenSRS reseller platform. The agreement with it is not signed yet; this page confirms it before the first live sale, and every receipt names it. You can see the registrar of any name at lookup.icann.org.

Read ICANN's Registrants' Benefits and Responsibilities and its registrant education pages.

Questions and complaints go to support@mosshatch.com. If we cannot settle a complaint, you can complain to our registrar, and then to ICANN Contractual Compliance.
