Our commitments
Draft. Counsel has not reviewed this wording.
Your searches
- We never register a name because you searched for it, and we never hold a name you looked at.
- We never sell or share what you search for.
- We do not write the names you search to our database, logs or audit records. An availability answer is kept in memory for at most a minute, so a repeat search does not ask the registrar again. Rate limits count searches per address, not names.
- A test in our build checks that a searched name reaches no table, no log line and no audit row.
Who sees a search
In the preview, a name you type stays in your browser and the prices are sample prices from a mock registrar. Where sales are switched on, checking whether a name is free sends it to our registrar partner (planned: Tucows, through OpenSRS), which asks the registry. They see the name. Your internet provider's resolver can see lookups too. We cannot promise what they do with it; we can promise what we do.
How we check availability
We check a name only after you stop typing, and only through our registrar's own availability check. We do not send your searches to public WHOIS or RDAP services in bulk; their terms forbid high-volume automated use, and we respect that. Each visitor and each account has a limit per hour, and the whole service has a daily ceiling.
